Pediatric & Family Care

Chiropractic care that starts with your child’s nervous system, not just their symptoms.

At Bruce Street Family Chiropractic, our neurologically based approach looks at how well your child’s nervous system is adapting to the everyday demands of growing up — so their body can do what it’s built to do: sleep, grow, focus, and heal.

Our Approach

The nervous system runs the whole show.

Everything your child’s body does — digest a meal, fight off a cold, calm down after a big feeling, fall asleep at bedtime — is coordinated by the nervous system. It’s the communication line between brain and body. Our neurologically based approach to pediatric chiropractic care starts by checking how clearly that line is running, rather than chasing one symptom at a time.

Growing puts real, physical stress on a small body — the birth process itself, learning to sit and walk, falls, sports, backpacks, and hours at a screen or a desk. Our job is to check your child’s spine and nervous system for tension that may be building up from all of that, using scans that are safe and comfortable for a one-day-old infant or a sixteen-year-old.

Chiropractic care is not a substitute for pediatric medicine. We don’t diagnose or treat medical conditions — we work alongside your child’s pediatrician and care team, focused on one job: keeping your child’s nervous system functioning as well as it can.

Who We See

Families come to us at every stage.

Every family’s reason for walking through our door is a little different. Here’s what that tends to look like at different ages.

Newborns & infants
Birth — even a straightforward one — is a physically demanding process for a tiny body. Many parents want their newborn’s spine and nervous system checked early, the same way they’d have a first pediatric check-up.
Growing bodies
Growth spurts, posture changes, heavy backpacks, and hours spent hunched over a device all place new demands on a developing spine. We check in as those changes happen.
Active kids & teens
Falls, collisions, and the repetitive strain of a favourite sport are some of the most common reasons school-aged kids and teens end up in our office.
Whole-family wellness
Plenty of families simply build regular pediatric check-ups into their care, the same way the parents already get checked — as routine, preventative maintenance.

Your Child’s Care Journey

Five steps, at your child’s pace.

We know that starting something new with your child can feel like a big decision. Here’s exactly what happens, and why, at every stage.

  • 01 Consultation — We sit down and listen — to your child’s history, your concerns, and what you’re hoping care will look like. No exam pressure, just a real conversation.
  • 02 INSiGHT Scan & Exam — Using our CLA INSiGHT technology, we run a set of gentle, painless scans that measure how your child’s nervous system is functioning — safe for infants through teens.
  • 03 Report of Findings — We walk you through exactly what the scans and exam show, in plain language, and answer every question before recommending anything.
  • 04 Care Plan — If there’s something worth addressing, we build a plan around your child’s age, findings, and your family’s goals — nothing generic, nothing one-size-fits-all.
  • 05 Gentle Adjustments — Techniques are matched to your child’s age and size — a light-touch contact for an infant is nothing like an adjustment for a teenager. Most kids relax right into it.

Common Questions

What Kitchener parents ask us most.

Is chiropractic care safe for babies and young children?

Yes. Pediatric adjustments use a fraction of the pressure used on an adult — often no more force than you’d use to test the ripeness of a tomato. Our INSiGHT scans are non-invasive and painless, and are safe to run on infants as young as one day old.

How is a pediatric adjustment different from an adult adjustment?

Technique is matched to the size and stage of the child. Infants and toddlers receive light, precise contact pressure; older children and teens receive an approach closer to — but still much gentler than — what an adult would experience. There’s no forceful twisting involved at any age.

Do I need a referral from my child’s pediatrician?

No referral is needed to book a consultation. Chiropractic care works alongside your child’s existing pediatric team, not in place of it — we’re always happy to communicate with your pediatrician if that’s helpful for your family.

What age can a child start chiropractic care?

There’s no minimum age. We see newborns within days of birth through to teenagers, with every scan and technique adjusted to fit the child in front of us.

How many visits will my child need?

It depends entirely on what the INSiGHT scan and exam show, and on your family’s goals. We’ll walk you through a specific, personalized recommendation at your Report of Findings visit — never a generic package.

What should I expect emotionally — will my child be scared or upset?

Most kids relax quickly once they see how gentle the process is. Our team is used to working with nervous first-timers, and there’s no rush — we go at your child’s pace, every visit.
