Headache Care

man at work with headacheThrobbing pain. A dull ache. That sudden “brain freeze” after ice cream. Pain right on top of your head. Headaches are one of the most common pain conditions in the world, and they can range from mildly annoying to completely debilitating.

Frequent headaches don’t just cost you time at school or work, they can take a toll on your mental health too, showing up alongside anxiety or depression for a lot of people.

The Main Types of Headaches

There are more than 150 recognized types of headaches, but they generally fall into two categories. Primary headaches aren’t caused by another medical condition, and include cluster headaches, migraines, new daily persistent headaches (NDPH), and tension headaches. Secondary headaches are related to something else going on, like a head injury, high blood pressure, infection, medication overuse, sinus congestion, trauma, or in rare cases, a tumour.

How Chiropractic Can Help

Adjustments can be an effective option for tension headaches and headaches that originate in the neck, which describes a lot of the headache patients we see.

Quite possibly. Parmesan cheese, dark chocolate, and red wine are common triggers for a lot of people. If you notice a pattern between certain foods and your headaches, cutting them out is worth a try.

When should I seek immediate care for a headache?

If a headache is unusually severe, gradually worsening, follows a blow to the head, or comes with fever, a stiff neck, confusion, decreased alertness, or memory issues, seek attention right away. The same goes for visual disturbances, slurred speech, weakness, numbness, or seizures, if you experience any of these, please get immediate medical attention.
